Pension Credit Checker

For the person you care for, if they're over State Pension age. Five questions, one estimate. This works like a Pension Credit calculator — an instant estimate of Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit based on 2026/27 rates.

Built by a former family carer, for family carers. v1.2 · 2026/27 rates
Their situation
The person you care for
State Pension age is currently 66 for both men and women.
State Pension, private pensions, earnings. Skip Attendance Allowance, PIP, DLA, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction and Winter Fuel — none of these count.
Cash, ISAs, investments. First £10,000 is ignored — no upper limit rules them out.
Often turns a "no" into a "yes" — raises the level they're topped up to. But two more things can switch this off — see below.
This is about them being a carer (for a partner, a sibling, anyone) — not about who cares for them. If someone cares for them and claims Carer's Allowance for it, tick the box above instead.
Less common situation? Reached State Pension age before 2016
Unlocks a small extra top-up called Savings Credit. Doesn't apply to anyone who reached State Pension age since then.

What claiming it unlocks

Even a few pence a week of award unlocks all of these, in full.

Not advice. This tool gives a general estimate based on 2026/27 Pension Credit rates and rules. It is not financial, legal, or professional advice, and it isn't a formal benefits calculation or entitlement decision. Guarantee Credit is estimated directly; Savings Credit uses a simplified version of the DWP formula and can be a little off at the edges. Housing costs, mortgage interest support, and some less common additions aren't modelled. Always confirm the exact figure with the GOV.UK Pension Credit calculator, the Pension Service (0800 99 1234), or Citizens Advice before relying on it.

No liability. This tool is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. Carers Info accepts no responsibility for any loss, missed entitlement, or other consequence arising from reliance on the figures or guidance shown here.

Your data. The figures you type into this checker are never sent anywhere — all the calculation happens on your own device, and nothing is kept after you close or reload this page. This page does load its typefaces from Google Fonts, a third-party service, each time it opens; that request doesn't carry anything you've typed into the form, but it's not nothing, so we're not claiming otherwise.

Rates used (2026/27, England/Wales/Scotland): Standard minimum guarantee £238.00/wk single, £363.25/wk couple; severe disability addition £86.05/wk (single, or couple where one qualifies), £172.10/wk (couple, both qualify) — payable only where no non-disabled adult (other than a partner) normally lives with them, and no one has a Carer's Allowance claim or underlying entitlement in for looking after them; Carer's Allowance £86.45/wk; carer addition £48.15/wk; capital disregard £10,000 with no upper limit, tariff income £1/wk per £500 (or part) above that; Savings Credit threshold £208.07/wk single, £329.75/wk couple; Savings Credit maximum £17.96/wk single, £20.10/wk couple (pre-6 April 2016 State Pension age only). Mixed-age couples (one partner under State Pension age) generally can't make a new Pension Credit claim and should look at Universal Credit instead.
